LEXINGTON, S.C. – A Columbia man is accused of breaking into a Gilbert home Monday.
Paul Lewis Richards Sr., 62, is charged with first-degree burglary, according to an arrest warrant.
“Deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress in the 3300 block of Augusta Highway Monday afternoon,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Based on the evidence investigators collected, Richards forced open a back door on a home and rummaged through some drawers and closets in a bedroom.”
Home security cameras captured images of a male suspect and a vehicle he drove to the home, according to Koon.
“With help from the Lexington Police Department, we were able to identify Richards,” Koon said. “We later confirmed the car seen in the video is owned by Richards’ wife.”
Richland County deputies arrested Richards at his home Monday night.
Richards is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
