LEXINGTON, S.C. – Lexington County deputies have arrested a Columbia man accused of murder in connection to a shooting death Tuesday night.
Johnnie Quawnetel Mack, 34, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to arrest warrants.
The victim was identified as John Darrick Rumph, 53, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. Rumph was pronounced dead at the scene in the 2400 block of Glenn Road in Gaston.
“Based on interviews with witnesses, the shooting stems from an incident between Mack and Rumph earlier that evening,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Mack returned to the home on Glenn Road where he fired multiple shots at Rumph.”
Rumph was shot once in the upper body, according to Koon.
Mack turned himself in Thursday night. He’s being held in the Lexington County Detention Center after a magistrate judge denied him bond Friday.
