A 14-year-old boy is charged with having a weapon and drugs on a school campus after a Lexington County deputy found an unloaded airsoft gun and marijuana in the student’s backpack.
Irmo Middle School administrators became aware of a student possibly having a gun at school this morning, according to deputies. The student fled campus after being confronted by an assistant principal. He was detained a short time later after an administrator found him in some nearby woods. A school resource officer searched the student’s backpack and found an airsoft gun and a small amount of marijuana.
The teen, who is not being identified because he’s under the age of 17, was released to the care of his mother. He will appear in Lexington County Family Court at a later date.
