The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation are co-hosting the 11th Jailbreak 5K Run & Walk May 27.
“Over the past 10 years, more than 5,000 participants of all ages and fitness levels have gathered in Lexington to enjoy a morning of fun and friendly competition,” Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Not only is the Jailbreak Lexington’s premiere 5K race, it’s also a great opportunity for our community to support law enforcement.”
Koon said the Lexington County Sheriff’s Foundation has raised more than $70,000 during previous races to purchase equipment, training and other supplies to assist deputies in carrying out their duties.
This year’s race starts at 8 a.m. at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s headquarters on Gibson Road.
According to Koon, Gibson Road will be closed in the area around LCSD headquarters from 6:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. Deputies will be posted around the course to control traffic and ensure the safety of race participants and motorists.
