Applications for our 41st Citizens Academy, which starts March 28, will be accepted until March 10. The Citizens Academy gives participants a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement operations from blood spatter analysis to booking inmates.

“Our Citizens Academy offers transparency and helps citizens have a full and complete understanding about how we serve and protect them every day,” Sheriff Jay Koon said. “We show participants many facets of law enforcement including patrol operations, narcotics enforcement, detention center operations, crime scene investigation, K9s and more.”

The deadline to apply is March 3. Applications are available in the main lobby of the Lexington County Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road in Lexington, or online at www.LexingtonSheriff.com. There is no charge, but space is limited.

Participants must be at least 18 and have a clean criminal record. The Citizens Academy program features nine three-hour weekly sessions from March 28 through May 9. The class also includes a mandatory deputy ride-along and detention center shadowing.
