Detectives arrested a Lexington woman this morning in connection with the death of her 4-year-old daughter last month.
Cynthia Estrada-Lopez, 24, is charged with homicide by child abuse, according to warrants.
“Based on evidence collected since the death of the child, investigators believe Estrada-Lopez restrained her daughter in the child’s bed, taped her mouth shut and abandoned her the evening of July 31,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.
When Lexington County Emergency Medical Services responded to the family’s home later that evening, the child was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the hospital that night.
Estrada-Lopez is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center while she awaits a bond hearing.
Koon said the investigation into the child’s death is still open.
