A pursuit in southern Lexington County ended in a fatal crash Monday morning at the entrance to the South Carolina State Famers Market.

A Lexington County deputy attempted to stop a car in the 600 block of Meadowfield Drive after noting it matched the description of a car reported stolen to the South Congaree Police Department Monday morning. The driver of the stolen car initiated the pursuit when he failed to stop for the deputy’s blue lights and siren.

The pursuit traveled on Meadowfield Road, Woodtrail Drive and Highway 321. The pursuit ended on Charleston Highway at the South Carolina State Farmers Market when the stolen car collided with a commercial delivery vehicle.

The driver of the stolen car and a passenger died in the collision. The commercial delivery vehicle’s driver was injured, but is expected to recover.

The stolen car’s driver had a suspended driver’s license and was wanted by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.

State Troopers are investigating the collision, which is standard procedure in crashes that occur during a police pursuit.
