Booking a vacation is always an exciting time no matter your age. For teenagers, it’s an opportunity for pictures and posts – but you may want to tell your children to hold off on the selfies until you’re home.
Posting a picture of your family hundreds of miles away from your home is an instant way to let people know your house is unattended. This is attractive to not only burglars, but also possibly your children’s friends who may be looking to throw a backyard party.
Pictures have become such a large part of society and I’m not asking you to tell your family not to take them, just try not to publicize them until you’re unpacked and able to say your house isn’t vacant.
If you are planning to go away, let your neighbors know so they can keep an eye on any unexpected activity at your house. You may have a dog walker coming to visit, but if your neighbor doesn’t recognize them, it could become an uncomfortable situation if deputies are called.
Neighbors can be a helpful tool to ease your mind while your house sits unattended. Be sure to set up a system so if anyone does try to break in or use your backyard, you won’t find out when it’s too late.
When you’re reflecting on your trip, use that opportunity to post about the amazing time you had and be clear that you’re back home safe.
