It’s great to live in a community that supports law enforcement. I routinely remind the men and women of the Sheriff’s Department we’re very fortunate to serve citizens who believe in what we do and stand behind us in a variety of ways.

Next week is an opportunity for you to formally come out and support us and honor the law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty while serving Lexington County-based agency.

May 14-20 is National Police Week. In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

I’d like to invite you to join us Wednesday, May 17 at 9:30 at the law enforcement monument on the west lawn of the Marc H. Westbrook Judicial Center in Lexington for this year’s Lexington County Law Enforcement Memorial Service. Leaders and officers from the county’s 15 law enforcement agencies will gather for a ceremony to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Your attendance will be very meaningful to the officers who serve you. Your support will send a message that the people of Lexington County are united in keeping our communities safe.
